Heaptalk, Jakarta — PT Trinseo Materials Indonesia, in collaboration with Kita Olah Indonesia and Perbanusa, performed the School Roadshow 2024 to promote environmental transformation in society by initiating tree plantations and promoting education about waste management.
“School Roadshow 2024 is an effort to encourage sustainable change, develop green spaces for a healthier environment, and encourage schools to become agents of change in sorting and processing waste, especially plastic waste. Through this program, we want to promote comprehensive waste management practices in Indonesia,” The President Director of PT Trinseo Materials Indonesia, who is also the Director of Environment and Sustainability Affairs Responsible Care Indonesia, Hanggara Sukandar, said.
Hanggara emphasized that the success of waste management hinges on collective action. He stressed the need for sustainable collaboration among various stakeholders, including educational institutions, government, private parties, industry, environmental associations, and households, to optimize waste management.
Around nine schools participate in the program, including 2 Depok Junior High School, 3 Depok Junior High School, 4 Depok Junior High School, 10 Depok Junior High School, 16 Depok Junior High School, Al-Hasra Junior High School, Al-Wafi, Al-Hamidiyah, and Darul Rahman Junior High School.
From the schools participated, several Indonesia’s Junior High Schools won the program, spanning 10 Depok, Al-Hamidiyah, and 3 Depok Junior High School for implementing an extensive waste sorting system at school, and organizing environmental awareness campaign by actively involving students. The program winners have also proactively managed single-use plastic consumption in school areas. These schools have reduced their environmental footprint by implementing initiatives focused on minimizing plastic waste.
“This program is fantastic. For this reason, we will follow up on this agenda by gathering around 50 children in one waste processing team. Coincidentally, Negeri 10 Junior High School was nominated as a national-level Adiwiyata school. I think this program can add points to the selection process,” the Headmaster of 10 Depok Junior High School, Antoni, said.
