Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) held Indonesia Aquaculture Business Forum (IABF) 2024 on Monday (04/29) in Jakarta to promote the national fisheries potency to both domestic and foreign investors.
“Aquaculture is different with mining and telco that are super attractive for investors. In promoting aquaculture, we need to create the business canvas first to convince the prospective investors,” stated the Minister of KKP, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono on the press conference of IABF at Jakarta (04/29).
Realizing the multiple challenges in this industry, KKP also held Indonesia Fisheries Business Forum (IMFBF) in early February this year. Promoting the national fisheries potential massively, KKP eyes an increase in investment of 15% this year or near US$781.5 million (US$1 equals Rp16.251).
“This event (IABF) is part of KKP roadshow to implement the blue economy roadmap, particularly in aquaculture. We hope this production of this field can jump in the future,” voiced Trenggono.
In order to attracting investor, Trenggono revealed that KKP has set several strategies. According to Trenggono, the government is committed to provide ease licencing process, distribute incentive, and maintain security and stability of the political condition, while providing connectivity, and skilful human capital.
During IABF 2024, the Ministry explained has developed area-based modeling to boost aquaculture production in Indonesia. This model has been implemented in several areas, such as Kebumen (shrimp), Karawang (Saline Tilapia), and Wakatobi (Seaweed). KKP also revitalized ponds and build aquaculture villages to meet domestic demand. To achieve sustainability goals, KKP is creating Ocean Big Data and Ocean Accounting which was supported by advanced technology, such as the use of satellite, AI, IoT, and other technologies.
Employing this strategy, the Minister stated, “The prospective investors who show their interest are from Vietnam and China”.
For information, IABF 2024 adopted Sustainable Aquaculture for Food Security and Economic Growth. This forum successfully attracted 300 participants, including domestic and foreign entrepreneurs, associations, and scholars.
