Heaptalk, Jakarta – Alternativa Film Project, a global non-profit film initiative founded by international technology company inDrive, will hold its second event, the Alternativa Film Awards in Indonesia to maximize support for the development of the local film industry.
Liza Surganova as Project Head of Alternativa Film stated, “We are very excited to welcome the works of talented local filmmakers who may have difficulty finding space to explore and enjoy their work. We are also excited to see the excitement of Indonesian filmmakers who have submitted their work.”
This nomadic or mobile event aims to provide recognition for the social impact of the developing film industry. Alternativa Film Awards will be held in late November 2024. On this occasion, Alternativa Film Awards is presented as an expansion program from the previous year, as well as launching a new festival and award event in Indonesia, which will screen all selected films from the nominees.
“We heard a lot of potential in Southeast Asia, especially Indonesia as a producer of visual works with international quality. That’s why we chose Indonesia and especially all the filmmakers in Southeast Asia to send their best works to the Alternativa Film project 2024,” added Liza.
The winners of the Alternativa Film Project will be selected by an international jury consisting of directors and producers of films from Asia and other regions, as well as community leaders and representatives from non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
This event presents an alternative system to reward professionals who have a vision to create impact, by making them more visible on a global scale and providing a way to reach a wider audience.
The jury will announce the winners who will receive cash prizes, which can be used and used in impactful programs / campaigns or further development of filmmaking skills.
The total prize pool reaches US$100,000 (Rp1.6 billion), with each winner receiving US$20,000 (Rp327 million) to be awarded for four feature film categories, and US$10,000 (Rp163 million) each for two winners in the short film category.
The festival, which includes all nominated titles, will run throughout the week leading up to November 2024 and marks the evolution of the project in Alternativa’s new film initiative, which also includes education and mentoring outreach through Alternativa Film Labs.
This expansion is a natural evolution of Alternativa’s nomadic nature and with each edition. The initiative aims to increase its geographic footprint and ongoing real support for filmmakers.
“It’s fitting that in Indonesia our registration will end in the month of Indonesia’s independence. August. The hope is that all Indonesian filmmakers and especially throughout Southeast Asia, can be free to voice their work through the Alternativa Film Project. Especially the feature film category,” said Liza.
The awards are open for submissions from 17 June 2024 to 18 August 2024, with entries including feature films, documentaries, animations and mixed media to compete.
