Heaptalk, Jakarta — After the first exhibition in 2019, Busworld Southeast Asia Jakarta opens its doors again on October 5—7, 2022 located at Hall D JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta. The event is organized by Busworld International in collaboration with Global Expo Management (GEM), exhibiting the bus, body, coach, and supporting component industries.
Multiple well-known carrosseries, both national and international, showcase their latest models and innovation, spanning Adiputro, Laksana, New Armada, Tentrem, Zhongtong, and Golden Dragon. The manufacturers exhibit electric buses and eco-friendly buses as well as premium buses.
Besides the exhibition, visitors can join the Busworld SEA 2022 Conference which is held on October 5—6, 2022. Enticing topics are discussed during the conference, including post-pandemic bus system adaptation and implementation of zero-emission buses in Southeast Asia.
The second Busworld Southeast Asia Jakarta is officially opened by the Director General of Land Transportation Ministry of Transportation Hendro Sugiatno. He delivered that the Indonesian Government continues to develop transportation infrastructure. “The development requires adjustments from all stakeholders in terms of building a safe bus structure as well as building drivers’ habits and IT system that can control the bus movement,” said Hendro during the opening ceremony (05/10).
At the exhibition, Hendro saw electric buses displayed by prominent bodybuilder companies, aligning with the government’s vision to be carbon-free in the future. Hendro expected that Busworld Southeast Asia Jakarta can continue to collaborate with the government as regulators as well as the automotive organizations, including the Land Transportation Organization (Organda) and Indonesian Young Autobus Entrepreneurs Association (Ipomi) to foster the development of bus transportation. Moreover, all the stakeholders need to work together to attract people to shift from private transportation to public transportation.
The covid-19 cases have been steadily declining and the economic growth shows a positive rate, resulting in higher public mobility. At the same time, more road infrastructure is being built, making bus operators busy opening new routes and destinations. According to the Association of Indonesian Carrosseries Industries (Askarindo), bus operators have to queue to obtain new buses from body manufacturers since the demand for new buses is soaring high.
Likewise, the General Manager of Busworld International Vincent Dewaele conveyed that the Indonesian market is quite promising. “Indonesian market has a lot of potential and challenges. For Jakarta only we have ten million inhabitants with 32 million people living in the metropolitan area. Organizing passenger transport is a must. Electrification and the latest mobility solution are already installed,” said Vincent.
Apart from diesel buses, electric buses are also highlighted during the event. The Indonesian government has set a net zero emission (NZE) program with a target of operating 41,000 electric buses by 2024, becoming a valuable opportunity for bus manufacturers.
Managing Director of Busworld Foundation Jan Deman admitted that public transportation is probably hit in the hardest possible way by the coronavirus. Jan said, “We were hit first, we were hit badly, and we were hit for probably the longest time. All public transport is still asking people to wear masks.” According to Jan, today the bus and coach industry is back and public transportation is taking up the level where it was before the pandemic.
Further, Jan delivered that lots of technological evolution are going on, including digitalization and electrification. He wondered what would be the best inputs to reach sustainable development. Yet he is convinced that a part of the answer to the development is the collectivization of transport one of which is through the exhibition and conferences. Therefore, in his closing statement, Jan expected all the participants can share knowledge and experience to find the most appropriate answer to advance the bus and coach industry.
