Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) has performed Smart City and Smart Province 2023, an award for cities, provinces, and regencies who managed to implement Smart City movement in their region. Kominfo Minister, Budi Aria Setiadi in his opening remarks reported that the Directorate General of Information Applications of Kominfo have guided around 251 regions to implement smart city pillars since 2017.

“After performing an assessment, we have selected around 50 cities/districts and two provinces in the archipelago to be guided in 2024. On the other hand, around 17 Indonesian cities/districts have submitted the Matchmaking Business Proposal for the guidance of Smart City infrastructure through the Government and Business Entity Cooperation Scheme (KPBU) next year,” said Budi.

In the following years,, the ministry has coordinated with ten selected regional governments to provide assistance. Thus, around 251 districts/cities in Indonesia have received and will receive Ministry of Communication and Technology guidance from 2017 to 2024. As is well known, the trend of this initiative development is increasing significantly. In 2023, around 141 cities will have developed each pillars.

The presence of numerous advanced technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), big data analytics, and cloud computing, has tremendous potential to improve society’s life. Based on his perspective, the latest technological assistance allows the integration of intelligence applications to elevate cost efficiency, time, and productivity.

“In the context of regional development, people can use this technology to support smart city initiatives.” affirmed the Minister during the event.

The Minister demonstrated the government’s commitment to facing challenges in implementing the pillars, including the expensive technology development costs, digital talent requisites, solid security infrastructure, and legislative preparations to be more adjusted according to standards.

The presence of a smart city is also indicated by fulfilling six pillars, spanning smart governance, smart branding, smart economy, smart society, smart environment, and smart living. For this reason, the Minister of Tech Budi looks forward to the entire aspect being implemented comprehensively.

“I hope this achievement encourages us to work harder to achieve a sustainable and empowering smart city and smart province.” Concluded Budi.
