She further explained that in 2022, the export value for the pulp and paper industry reached US$ 8.6 billion with a total volume of 11.2 million tonnes. The import value of this industry attained US$3.9 billion with a total volume of 6.5 million tonnes.
Based on the data, this industry experienced a surplus of US$4.7 billion and contributed 4.17% towards non-oil and gas export value or 3.99% of the national GDP from non-oil and gas processing industry.
Meanwhile, the demand for packaging products and cartons remains high, especially for the needs of the F&B sector and e-commerce. However, the export value of this industry only reached 65,49 thousand tonnes or US$ 166.39 million while the import value in 2022 was 123.95 thousand tonnes or US$269.52 million.
“This data demonstrated a deficit. This is an opportunity for us, because the domestic demand remains high but the national industry cannot meet the demand yet, both in terms of the working speed, and product quality,” stated Merri.
