Heaptalk, Jakarta — Maybank Indonesia has been awarded Best SME Bank—Indonesia by the global media platform The Digital Banker at the Global SME Banking Innovation Awards 2025. The accolade was presented in March 2025 during a gala event following a rigorous assessment by the judging panel of The Digital Banker, a Singapore-based financial and business publication.
During the evaluation process, the judging panel considered several key criteria, including digital innovation, SME client experience, financial and market performance, and corporate strategy. The Global SME Banking Innovation Awards 2025 recognizes banks that excel in the SME segment by demonstrating strengths in product, service, and process innovation, superior customer experience, digital interaction and ecosystem, financial and market performance, adoption of next-generation technology, and simple, accessible digital financial services.
At the awards ceremony, David Wongso, Head of SME Banking at Maybank Indonesia, stated that the bank remains committed to providing diverse financial services for SMEs to strengthen the community financial services business. “This award reinforces Maybank Indonesia’s commitment to further developing the SME sector, which serves as the backbone of Indonesia’s economy,” David said.
Humanising financial services
Additionally, Bianto Surodjo, Director of Community Financial Services at Maybank Indonesia, emphasized that the SME segment is one of the company’s most critical and strategic business segments. According to him, SME business development aligns with Maybank Indonesia’s mission of humanising financial services.
He explained, “In developing our SME business, we don’t just provide financing to customers. Maybank Indonesia also builds ecosystems, strengthens partnerships, empowers SME entrepreneurs, and drives sustainable growth.”
This year, the bank plans to increase SME customer penetration by intensifying its Customer Centricity approach. Initiatives include: actively engaging the market through various activities, participating in B2B expos, collaborating on regional events, expanding SME banking digitalization with eBiz Maxi, enabling customers to apply for loans anytime, anywhere without visiting a branch.
