Heaptalk, Jakarta — President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has called on all parties to ensure that digital transformation is inclusive and fair. In the digital sector, all layers of society in Indonesia are expected to receive equal access, opportunities, and protection.
“I emphasize that digital transformation must be inclusive and fair. People in remote areas, those in lower economic strata, micro-economy, and SMEs, must all have equal access and opportunities and receive the same protection,” said Jokowi.
He also requested that the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and Bank Indonesia (BI) enhance public protection in the digital economy sector. Currently, financial literacy in Indonesia is still relatively low. He said, “Our financial literacy is still low; as far as I remember, about 50% of the population is still vulnerable to fraud and digital crime.”
Therefore, Jokowi also emphasized the importance of consumer data protection and security systems. This is crucial to ensure that small people are not harmed. “Prepare consumer protection systems. Ensure the security of consumer data. Do not let small people become the disadvantaged party,” he added.
On this occasion, President Jokowi stated that amid global economic slowdown and uncertainty, Indonesia must be able to utilize all available instruments and opportunities to continue growing. He highlighted the immense potential of Indonesia’s digital economy, which is projected to grow fourfold by 2030.
“Digital payments are also predicted to grow 2.5 times by 2030, reaching US$760 billion or around Rp12,300 trillion. A huge number,” said Jokowi. He also pointed out the support from the demographic bonus, which will peak in 2030 with 68% of Indonesia’s population being of productive age, including generations Y, Z, and Alpha. Additionally, the number of active mobile phones in Indonesia currently reaches 354 million, exceeding the population of approximately 280 million.
