Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo), through the Human Resource Development Agency, announced its plan to establish Digital Talent Centers (DTCs) in every province in Indonesia (07/05).
This plan aims to address the gap between the demand and supply of digital talent in each province in Indonesia. The construction will be carried out in stages based on the community conditions and the need for digital talent. The first priority locations include Jambi, South Sumatra, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Nusa Tenggara, Gorontalo, North Sulawesi, Maluku, West Papua, and Papua. Riau, Banten, and the Nusantara Capital (IKN) are the second priority locations. Meanwhile, other provinces are categorized as the third priority locations.
According to Hary Budiarto, Head of the Human Resource Development Agency of Kominfo, establishing Digital Talent Centers in each province is based on the Ministry’s study of the relationship between a country’s GDP and the need for digital talent. This step is expected to distribute digital talent evenly according to each region’s needs. Based on Kominfo’s study, the demand for digital talent in Indonesia in 2030 is estimated to be 12 million, with a supply expected to reach only 9.3 million.
Providing the Diploy platform
“We need 2.7 million digital talents. That is the gap. If divided until 2024, then we need 458,043 digital talents per year. We are not yet discussing whether the supply meets the requirements, meaning whether the competencies are appropriate,” Hary said at the Kominfo Office in Jakarta (07/05).
Furthermore, the Ministry also has the crucial task of filling the digital talent gap with competencies that match industry demands. Hary added, “We conduct training and improve the modules at universities that are still lacking. Many modules at universities do not comply with the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI).”
Kominfo also provides the Diploy platform, which offers information on job vacancies and internships that can help DTC graduates enter the industry. Digital talents can work independently in industries and government through MSMEs and digital startups. This initiative opens up a world of opportunities for digital skills and promises a bright future for the digital industry in Indonesia.
