Heaptalk, Jakarta — After the National Data Center was hit by Brain Cipher ransomware, a new bank account hacking application has emerged. This application reportedly can hack mobile banking (m-banking), causing money to disappear in a flash. To this extent, how secure is the mobile banking system itself?
According to a renowned media source, Banking Analyst and Payment System Practitioner Arianto Muditomo explained that it is unlikely for such an application to directly hack m-banking due to the rigorous process involved in launching mobile banking applications. These processes include development, licensing, inspection, audits, and trials.
“To launch their mobile banking application, banks undergo a series of development and licensing processes and inspections, including audits and trials. These processes ensure the system’s reliability, including features, security, accuracy, and service quality,” said Arianto in Jakarta on Wednesday (06/26).
He further revealed that m-banking can be hacked due to customer mistakes, such as downloading unclear applications. Therefore, Arianto advised mobile banking users to be cautious when downloading files sent via WhatsApp or SMS. He also urged customers to ignore messages claiming to be from loan services, lottery prizes, job offers, and similar sources. These are all forms of fraud that can hack customer data to drain balances in mobile banking.
