Heaptalk, Jakarta — After receiving a loan of ¥140.69 billion or approximately Rp14.51 trillion from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), assuming an exchange rate of Rp103.18 per yen, MRT Jakarta will conduct the groundbreaking for the construction of the MRT across the East-West route connecting Cikarang-Balaraja.
“A total of 13 stations will be built above or elevated, and eight underground or underground stations,” said MRT Jakarta President Director Tuhiyat in a press release on Thursday (05/15).
Tuhiyat explained that the MRT Jakarta East-West corridor will stretch 84 km from Balaraja, Tangerang, to Cikarang, Bekasi. The construction process will be divided into four stages of work: Phase 1 (Tomang—Medan Satria, 22.7 km long), Phase 2 (Kembangan—Tomang, 9.2 km long), Phase 2 East (Medan Satria—Cikarang, 21.8 km long), and Phase 2 West (Kembangan Balaraja, 29.9 km long).
MRT Jakarta’s East-West corridor will be integrated with the North-South corridor, with a meeting point at Thamrin Station, currently under construction. In the initial stage of development, Phase 1 of MRT Jakarta’s East-West corridor will have 21 stations consisting of an underground line from Roxy to Galur and elevated stations from Tomang—Grogol and Cempaka Baru—Ujung Menteng. At this stage, a depot will also be built in the Rorotan area with an access route 5.4 km long.
“We will conduct groundbreaking around Thamrin as there is still quite a bit of work there, which is indeed a meeting point for North-South and East-West routes,” he concluded.
