Heaptalk, Jakarta — To expand the integrated transportation system at MRT Jakarta, the Indonesian government received a loan from Japan worth up to ¥140.699 billion, or around US$899.34 million (US$1 equals ¥156).
Yasui Takehiro, the Head of JICA Indonesia Representative, revealed to journalists in Jakarta on Monday (13/5) that this loan, amounting to Rp14.5 trillion, will be instrumental in constructing a 24.5-kilometer-long route. This route, which will span from Medan Satria Bekasi to Tomang, West Jakarta, is a crucial part of the East-West corridor.
This expansion aims to connect Cikarang Bekasi and Balaraja Tangerang, enhancing the integrated transportation system. As part of the agreement, the project will incorporate Japanese technology. “The loan of Rp14.5 trillion has a fixed interest rate of 0.3%. The project consulting services section will have an annual interest rate of 0.2%. Indonesia has 40 years to pay off the debt, with a grace period of 10 years,” Yasui explained.
He added, “This project is likely to be operational in 2031. However, the Indonesian Government plans to hold a groundbreaking ceremony (for the East-West route) this August. Regarding construction, it is likely to start next year. Before construction begins, several procedures must be carried out, including selecting contractors.”
The East-West line construction project is divided into two stages. The first stage is the Tomang-Medan Satria route. The remaining part of the first phase includes a 9.2-kilometer line connecting Tomang and Kembangan stations. The second phase will connect Kembangan-Balaraja and Medan Satria-Cikarang, covering 50.4 kilometers. In his closing remarks, Yasui hoped the MRT Jakarta East-West Route could solve Jakarta’s traffic jam issue.
