Initiated by Sinar Sosro and Tetra Pak, the Dauri campaign focuses on increasing awareness of recycling and encouraging Indonesians to recycle used beverage packaging.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesian ready-to-drink tea company Sinar Sosro in collaboration with multinational food packaging and processing company Tetra Pak released a recycling campaign entitled Dauri, an abbreviation of Daur untuk Negeri, which translates to Recycle for the Nation (09/16).
This collaboration was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) by both parties which was witnessed by representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) at the Forestry Climate Environment and Renewable Energy (LIKE) Festival. This event is one of the activities leading up to the COP28 climate change conference.
The Dauri campaign focuses on increasing awareness of the importance of recycling and encouraging Indonesian people to recycle their used beverage packaging. Sinar Sosro and Tetra Pak will carry out a series of educational activities, including sorting used packaging to facilitate the recycling process, for relevant stakeholders such as community groups, used goods collectors, and schools.
According to the Director of Tetra Pak Tommy Srihartoyo Soetoyo, beverage cartons are valuable recycled material for making new products. Further, recycling used beverage cartons can help reduce waste and protect the environment.
“We are confident that the Dauri initiative, which is run together with Sinar Sosro, can support the national agenda by encouraging recycling rates and implementing better waste management, which ultimately contributes to a sustainable economy,” added Tommy.
Successfully reducing waste accumulation in 2022
Based on data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), Indonesia has succeeded in reducing waste accumulation by around 12 million tons in 2022, higher than the national waste reduction target of 30% in 2025. Regarding this achievement, Tommy responded, “We are proud of the progress that Indonesia has achieved in efforts to reduce piles of waste. Tetra Pak is committed to supporting these efforts, and helping create a more sustainable future for Indonesia.”
Meanwhile, Chief Marketing Officer of Sinar Sosro Sabrina Kharisanti said that Dauri is an ongoing campaign from the company to boost awareness of the importance of recycling beverage packaging among consumers in Indonesia.
“This partnership with Tetra Pak will help us achieve our sustainability goals and have a positive impact on the environment. Together, we will work and believe that everyone has a role in protecting the environment, and this campaign is an invitation for everyone in Indonesia to play a role in recycling,” said Sabrina.
Sinar Sosro and Tetra Pak have collaborated over the past four years on various occasions, including increasing consumer awareness, improving waste collection and sorting, developing recycling facilities, and using recyclables.
