Heaptalk, Jakarta — PT PLN (Persero) has performed three cooperation with several national and international parties in organizing the Conference of the Parties (COP) 28, Dubai, to complete the realization of the energy transition more quickly.

In more detail, these three collaboration in the COP28 include:

  1. Collaboration with the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NRE) regarding PLN control center development studies.
  2. Strategic collaboration with the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) to develop potential projects to reduce carbon emissions in the electricity sector significantly.
  3. An MoU signing with PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (SMI) and KfW regarding utilizing the Project Development Facility (PDF) managed by PT SMI for Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Power Plant projects to accelerate Indonesia’s energy transition.

“PT SMI and KfW will provide support in the form of Feasibility Study and Environmental and Social Scoping in the preparation stages of the Grindulu Pumped Storage 4×250 MW Hydroelectric Power Plant and 2×250 MW Sumatra Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Power Project.” The President Director of PLN Persero, Darmawan Pwasodjo, said.

On the other hand, around 14 strategic partnerships have also been successfully carried out, which include the development of a New Renewable Energy (NRE) ecosystem in Indonesia, capacity-building programs, utilization of Fly Ash Bottom Ash (FABA) waste, finance, and early retirement of Steam Power Plants (PLTU).

Further, Darmawan explained that climate change is a global issue. As is well known, around 1 ton of CO2 emissions in Dubai will cause damage equivalent to 1 ton of CO2 emissions in Jakarta. For this reason, he emphasized that collaboration between numerous countries is the key.

“As the driving force of the energy transition in Indonesia, PLN continues to perform climate change mitigation efforts. Through the COP28 conference, we look forward to the strategic collaboration from the international community to resolve the global climate issue and accomplish the Net Zero Emission (NZE) objective more quickly,” added Darmawan.
